Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it is.
In the boredom and pain of it,
no less than in the excitement and gladness:
touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it,
because in the last analysis all moments are key moments,
and life itself is grace.

Summer Update from the Pruitt's in Haiti

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you so much for your continued friendship, prayers and support! As we are finishing the school year we are especially grateful for all our supporters, who have made our ministry here possible.

It's really hard to believe that we have been here in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, at Quisqueya Christian School, for the last four years. It has been a real blessing to be able to see the students who started out as Freshmen go through their Senior year, and prepare to go on to college this summer. In a community where many Americans come and go, we feel blessed to offer some continuity and longevity to the school and the students.

In the last few days, a few alumni from the last couple of years have visited campus, and it was so encouraging to see how well they are doing in college in the U.S. Many of them proudly alluded to good grades, and talked about how they hope to come back to Haiti after graduation to help build up the country. For example, one alumnus shared how he is majoring in Public Policy, and hopes to come back to Haiti after completing graduate school, and improve the government. Because he is Haitian, he truly understands the culture, history and language. Because he has an excellent education, he will have the knowledge and skills he needs to make a significant contribution. Because he loves the Lord and has a strong foundation in a Bible from his time at QCS, he has a passion to make a positive impact for the Kingdom of God. We are so excited to see how God uses this student, and so many others, to transform Haiti and their world for the glory of Jesus Christ!

We are planning to return for another school year in Haiti. Robbie will continue teaching Bible, while also formalizing his role as Director of Professional Development and continuing his role as the school’s Social Media Director. Irene will continue to focus on her primary ministry, which is her family. She also hopes to continue to provide counseling one or two mornings a week.

Please continue to pray for our family, as you feel led. In particular, we would ask for your prayers for Robbie's students, that they would continue to grow in their faith and walk more and more closely with the Lord. Please also pray for God's guidance regarding Irene's very part-time counseling ministry in the next school year--that God would work out the details of child care, meeting spaces, etc. Also, please pray for continued health and safety, and praise God that He has been so faithful to us in those ways for these last four years!

Summer Plans

This summer, we will be back the U.S for June and July. We would love to visit with you while we're in town. Also, if you would like for us to share about our ministry with your small group or church, we would be happy to do that. Here is a tentative itinerary:

Update from the Pruitt's in Haiti

Hello friends and family!

First of all, we want to say how thankful we are for your continued prayers for our family, and for your support of our ministry. It means so much to us, and we are so grateful!

These last few months have been really full for our family. In March, Robbie had the opportunity to go on a study tour of Israel as part of his Master's program at Columbia International University. Visiting the Holy Land has been a lifelong dream for him, and it was wonderful to see the dream come to fruition! Needless to say, the trip was amazing. Robbie was surprised by just how many sites the group was able to visit in the 2 1/2 weeks. The are archaeology, the history, and the geography all really deepened Robbie's understanding of scripture and of the history of God's people. Since getting back, Robbie has had many occasions to share this new knowledge in his classes, in chapel, and with friends. Already, we can see how God is multiplying the benefits of the trip.

While Robbie was away, Irene and Grace headed to Virginia for a couple of weeks. It was wonderful to spend time with family--we miss them so much when we're in Haiti! We relished the extra time with doting grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Since we all returned to Haiti, the weeks have been ticking by very fast, zooming towards the end of the school year in May. The end of the year always seems to go by quickly, especially with a couple of long weekends, school field trips, end of the year testing and finals.

Grace is doing really well. These days, she especially loves jumping, dancing and singing... sometimes all at once. We've been especially amazed at the songs she has been learning lately, which she sings to herself all day long--the ABCs, Ba Ba Black Sheep, Row Row Row Your Boat, and many others! She is such a delight, and Irene feels so blessed to be able to stay at home with her.

Please continue to pray, that...

  • Robbie would finish the school year well, and leave a lasting impact on his students, especially those who are graduating soon
  • Irene would also be effective in her part-time counseling
  • God would bless and continue to lead the teachers from our school, those who are leaving this year, and those who are staying
  • God would continue to bless, grow and protect Grace.

Thanks again for your partnership, friendship, and support! We are so grateful for you!

Much love from all three,

Robbie, Irene and Grace

Here are a few photos from the last month or so. The first few are from Easter over at our house, complete with colored eggs and a butter lamb. Next, are several from a trip to the mountains with our house church, which was like a mini retreat--so wonderful and relaxing! A few others are from school--hanging out with little Max and our friend, Ara, the music teacher, who blesses Grace by letting her play on the piano and other instruments. She loves it! And, finally a few from our usual courtyard on our usual blanket, Grace with her usual hilarious antics, with the usual tiny hummingbirds buzzing around. I hope you also had a good month!

The beach

Also during Spring Break, we were able to go to the beach with some friends, which was just wonderful. It was refreshing and relaxing, and really just plain fun. One breezy morning, we went for a walk around the grounds, which was really good for my soul. I forget how much I miss just being able to walk around in a peaceful place, without being gawked at or really conspicuous. Grace got a bit bolder with the sand and the waves, as long as hey weren't too big or in her face. The biggest highlight was the pool--Grace would pull me in its direction whenever she could, saying something like, "Come. Pool? Okay. Pool! Yeah." All pretty nice for the middle of February, huh?
